The brief: Globalization has its drawbacks, one of which is the loss of languages. Vietnam is facing the exact problem. Youth nowadays don’t want to use Vietnamese, they prefer to use English because it makes them cool. How to make young Vietnamese realize the importance of their mother tongue?
The solution: We asked young people to write their favorite Vietnamese word on their body. That way, the word is part of their body, like they were born with it and they will die with it. The meaning is to let us realize that our mother tougue is part of who we are. Therefore, we need to accept it and learn to love it.
Trivial facts:
- The project was done by me and a Brazilian girl who happens to love Vietnam and the Vietnamese people.- To us, this is still an on-going project.
- The idea was to have 3 phases, what you just saw is phase 1.
- Phase 1: Asking for our friends to help.
- Phase 2: Going out and ask strangers they would do it and the photos would be in a more natural settings.
- Phase 3: Letting anyone interested in the project to take photos of themselves and others.
